SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Centres

You must select three exam centres, in order of priority, all within the same SSC Region — this is a specific rule worth noting since candidates sometimes mistakenly try to pick centres across different regions, which isn’t allowed. SSC operates through 9 regional zones:

RegionStates/UTs Covered
Central Region (CR)Bihar, Uttar Pradesh
Eastern Region (ER)Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sikkim, West Bengal
Karnataka Kerala Region (KKR)Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Kerala
Madhya Pradesh Region (MPR)Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh
North Eastern Region (NER)Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura
Northern Region (NR)Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand
North Western Region (NWR)Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab
Southern Region (SR)Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana
Western Region (WR)Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra

SSC reserves the right to add, cancel, or reassign exam centres even after you’ve made your choice, and no request for centre change is entertained at any stage once submitted — choose carefully.

SSC CHSL Tier-I 2026 Exam Pattern

The Computer Based Examination is conducted in two tiers. A genuinely new feature this cycle: each of the four Tier-I subjects now carries its own fixed 15-minute sectional timer — a real change from earlier cycles where the full 60 minutes could be freely distributed across sections.

PartSubjectQuestions/MarksTime
IEnglish Language (Basic Knowledge)25/5060 minutes total, with a 15-minute sectional timer for each of the four subjects
IIGeneral Intelligence25/50(80 minutes total, with 20-minute sectional timer per subject, for scribe-eligible candidates)
IIIQuantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill)25/50
IVGeneral Awareness25/50
  • Tier-I is entirely Objective Type, Multiple Choice.
  • Questions are set in English, Hindi, and any one of 15 languages you select in your application (for Parts II, III, and IV only — Part I remains English-only in terms of language options for that specific section per the notification’s language annexure).
  • Negative marking: 0.50 marks deducted for every wrong answer.

SSC CHSL Tier-II 2026 Exam Pattern

Tier-II is conducted in two sessions on the same day and is considerably more detailed than Tier-I.

Session-I (2 hours 15 minutes total)

SectionSubjectQuestionsMarksTime
Section-I, Part AMathematical Abilities30901 hour (shared with Part B)
Section-I, Part BReasoning and General Intelligence3090
Section-II, Part AEnglish Language and Comprehension401201 hour (shared with Part B)
Section-II, Part BGeneral Awareness2060
Section-IIIComputer Knowledge Test154515 minutes

(Scribe-eligible candidates get extended time: 1 hour 20 minutes for Section-I, 1 hour 20 minutes for Section-II, and 20 minutes for Section-III.)

Session-II

SectionTestTime
Section-IV, Part ASkill Test for DEOs in Ministry of Consumer Affairs, SSC, Ministry of Culture15 minutes
Section-IV, Part BSkill Test for DEOs in other Departments15 minutes
Section-IV, Part CTyping Test for LDC/JSA10 minutes

Key rules for Tier-II:

  • Session-I sections run back-to-back and close automatically once their time is up — you get a break between Session-I and Session-II for re-registration.
  • It is mandatory to qualify all sections of Tier-II — Sections I, II, III, and IV each have their own requirement.
  • Tier-II is Objective/MCQ type except Section-IV. Questions are set in English, Hindi, and your chosen regional language for all sections except Part A of Section-II (English Language and Comprehension), which remains English-only.
  • Negative marking: 1 mark deducted per wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II, and Section-III.
  • Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test) is mandatory but only qualifying in nature — it doesn’t count toward your merit score.

SSC CHSL 2026 Skill Test / Typing Test — Full Details

This is where a lot of candidates lose out despite clearing the objective sections, so read this carefully.

Skill Test for Data Entry Operators (Mandatory for All DEOs)
DEO CategoryRequired SpeedPassage LengthDuration
DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ in Consumer Affairs, SSC, Ministry of Culture15,000 Key Depressions Per Hour~3,700–4,000 key depressions15 minutes
DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ in other Departments8,000 Key Depressions Per Hour~2,000–2,200 key depressions15 minutes

No DEO candidate is exempted from the Skill Test — this applies to every DEO applicant regardless of category.

Typing Test for LDC/JSA
  • You must choose either English or Hindi as your typing medium in the application form itself — this choice is final and cannot be changed later.
  • English medium: 35 words per minute (approx. 10,500 key depressions/hour). Hindi medium: 30 words per minute (approx. 9,000 key depressions/hour).
  • Test duration: 10 minutes, evaluated on accuracy of a given passage.
  • Critical detail most guides skip: candidates opting for Hindi typing must use Mangal Font only. Using any other Hindi font results in automatic non-qualification in the Typing/Skill Test — there’s no exception or grace period for this.
  • Errors in the Skill/Typing Test are calculated up to 2 decimal places.
  • Persons with disabilities who are medically certified as permanently unable to type (by a Government Civil Surgeon) may seek exemption from the typing test — but this exemption does not cover candidates who are visually or hearing handicapped; it’s specifically for those with a physical disability that prevents typing itself.

SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process and Merit

Minimum Qualifying Marks (Tier-I, and Tier-II Sections I, II, III)

CategoryQualifying Marks
UR30%
OBC/EWS25%
All other categories20%
  • Shortlisting for Tier-II is based on normalized Tier-I scores — since the exam runs across multiple shifts, SSC normalizes scores to account for shift-wise difficulty variation before determining cut-offs and merit.
  • There may be separate category-wise cut-offs across the three post-groups: DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ in the specific departments named in Para 8.1, DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ elsewhere, and LDC/JSA.
  • Final merit is based only on Tier-II Section-I and Section-II marks combined (out of 360 total) — provided you’ve separately qualified Section-III and Section-IV, which don’t add to your score but must be cleared.
  • Tie-break order: (1) Section-I marks in Tier-II, (2) Tier-I marks, (3) date of birth, with older candidates ranked higher.
