BPSC TRE 4.0 Eligibility Criteria 2026
Every candidate applying for BPSC TRE 4.0 must meet three basic conditions: Indian citizenship, the academic and training qualification fixed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and a valid Teacher Eligibility Test certificate for the level they are applying to. BPSC TRE 4.0 Educational Qualification 2026 (Subject-wise)
The exact qualification depends on the class level and subject a candidate wants to apply for. Here is a simplified, level-wise summary. For every level, candidates get a 5% relaxation in the minimum required percentage if they belong to SC, ST, EBC, Backward Class or Divyang category.
Primary Teacher (Class 1-5) Qualification

Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts and Dance subject posts (Class 9-10) require a Bachelor’s/graduate degree with minimum 45-50% marks in the respective subject from a recognised university, board or institute. Physical Education candidates can also qualify through sports participation certificates such as NCC ‘C’ certificate or state/university-level representation.
Special School Teacher (Class 9-10) Qualification
- Graduation with minimum 50% marks from a recognised university, AND
- B.Ed in Special Education from an RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) recognised institution with a valid RCI CRR number, AND

Bihar domicile women candidates get an additional 4% relaxation in the qualifying marks under the latest circular.
Candidates who clear the Preliminary Exam and meet the qualifying marks are called for the Main Exam, in a ratio of 2.5 to 10 times the number of vacancies (category-wise). The final merit list for Class 1-5 posts is based on the General Studies (Part-II) marks of the Main Exam. For Class 6-8, 9-10, Special School Teacher and 11-12 posts, the final merit is based on the combined marks of the General Studies and Subject papers (Part-II + Part-III) of the Main Exam. In case of a tie, subject marks, then language marks, then age (older candidate preferred), then alphabetical order (Devanagari script) is used.

All papers are objective type (MCQ) with 5 options (A, B, C, D, E) per question. Candidates must select one of A-D as the answer, or select option E if they do not wish to attempt the question. A wrong answer, and a question left unanswered without marking option E, both attract a negative marking of 1/3 mark, in both the Preliminary and Main exams. There is no provision for re-evaluation of the Main Exam answer sheet.
BPSC TRE 4.0 Reservation Policy 2026
Reservation follows Bihar Government’s standard rules. Only candidates who are original residents (domicile) of Bihar can claim reservation benefit. Horizontal Reservation

What’s New in BPSC TRE 4.0 2026 (Important Updates)
- STET 2026 candidates can also apply: Candidates who have the required educational and training qualification and are eligible to sit for STET 2026 can apply for TRE 4.0 too, but they must clear STET 2026 before the Preliminary Exam. The Prelim admit card will not be issued without a valid STET 2026 pass.
- Guest teacher incentive marks: Guest teachers who meet the eligibility for a Secondary Teacher post get 5 incentive marks per year of service, up to a maximum of 25 marks, subject to submitting an experience certificate from the District Education Officer. This benefit depends on the outcome of a pending case (LPA No. 593/2024) at Patna High Court.
- Transgender category added to the Backward Class list: As per General Administration Department letter dated 15.06.2026, transgender candidates get horizontal reservation as a Backward Class category.
- All certificates must be issued by 30.09.2026: Educational, training, experience, and Teacher Eligibility Test related certificates issued after this cut-off date will not be accepted.
- Maximum 5 attempts: A candidate can appear in the BPSC school teacher exam a maximum of 5 times, as per the Bihar Rajya Vidyalaya Adhyapak (Niyukti, Sthanantaran, Anushasanik Karyavahi evam Sevashart) Sanshodhan Niyamavali, 2024.

How to Apply for BPSC TRE 4.0 2026 (Online Application Process)
- Complete One Time Registration (OTR): Visit bpsconline.bihar.gov.in and click on “New User Registration” to complete OTR using a valid email ID and mobile number. This OTR will be valid for all future BPSC exams too.
- Link Digilocker account: After OTR, the Digilocker “Meri Pehchan” portal opens. Sign in with an existing Digilocker account or create a new one, and give consent (OAMS) to fetch your documents.
- Complete your profile: Fill in Personal Information, Address Information, Other Information, Qualification Information, Experience Information (if any), and upload your photo and signature. Lock your profile once all details are confirmed correct.
- Apply for BPSC TRE 4.0: Go to the “New Application” tab, select the TRE-4.0 advertisement, choose the post/level and subject, and click “Pay Fees”.
- Pay the application fee: Complete the payment through the SBI Payment Gateway using the “Online Payment” option and confirm the payment.
- Submit the application form: After successful payment, open the application form from the “New Application” tab, click “Proceed to Application”, complete the remaining details, and click “Submit Application”.
- Download and save a copy: Print or save the final submitted application form for future reference. A hard copy does not need to be sent to the BPSC office unless specifically asked for.
Note: Once the payment for a chosen post/subject is done, that selection cannot be changed. If a candidate wants to change the post or subject, the payment for the earlier choice must be cancelled first and the entire process repeated. No refund is given for a cancelled payment or a cancelled application.
