RRB JE Eligibility Criteria 2026

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, a citizen of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to an eligibility certificate from the Government of India).

Fee must be paid online only (internet banking, debit/credit card, or UPI) by 15 September 2026. Refund is credited only to a bank account seeded with the candidate’s Aadhaar number.

RRB JE Selection Process 2026

Selection for RRB JE and DMS posts is done through four stages:

  • 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I) – common screening test for all posts
  • 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II) – discipline-specific technical test
  • Document Verification (DV)
  • Medical Examination (ME)

Candidates are shortlisted for CBT-II at 15 times the community-wise vacancy of the RRB, based on CBT-I merit. Shortlisting for DV is based on CBT-II merit (via a normalised Merit Index) and is equal to the number of vacancies. Final empanelment depends on merit, document verification, and passing the prescribed medical standard.

There is negative marking of 1/3rd mark for every wrong answer in both CBT-I and CBT-II. PwBD candidates get a 2-mark relaxation in qualifying marks if there is a shortage of candidates against reserved vacancies.

Step 1: Create an Account

Visit the official RRB application portal and create an account using your valid personal mobile number and email ID. These details cannot be changed later.

Step 2: Authenticate Your Identity

Verify your identity through Aadhaar or DigiLocker as required during the application process. This can help with identity verification at later stages.

Step 3: Choose RRB and Post Preferences

Select only one RRB and provide your preferred posts/zones as permitted in the application form. The selected RRB cannot be changed after submission.

Step 4: Fill in the Application Form

Enter your personal, educational, category and other required details carefully. Check all information before proceeding to the next step.

Step 5: Capture Live Photograph

Capture your live photograph using a webcam or mobile camera as instructed in the application portal. Pre-existing photographs are not accepted. Candidates should wear dark-coloured clothing and avoid white clothing.

Step 6: Upload Signature

Upload your scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format, with the file size between 30 KB and 49 KB. The signature should be in running handwriting and should not be written in block or capital letters.

Step 7: Upload SC/ST Certificate

SC/ST candidates who want to avail the free train travel facility should upload the prescribed SC/ST certificate in PDF format. The file size should be below 400 KB as specified in the application instructions.

Step 8: Pay the Application Fee

Pay the applicable application fee through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card or UPI. Complete the payment within the prescribed deadline.

Step 9: Submit the Application

Review the complete application form carefully before final submission. After successful submission, save or download the confirmation page and note down your Registration Number for future use.

RRB JE Salary & Job Profile 2026

RRB JE and DMS posts carry Pay Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission with an initial basic pay of ₹35,400 per month, plus applicable Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and Travel Allowance as per Railway rules. Selected candidates undergo training (with stipend) before regular posting and may be liable for transfer within Indian Railways in the exigencies of service.

Important Instructions for RRB JE 2026 Candidates

  • Multiple applications to the same or different RRBs against this CEN will lead to rejection of all applications and debarment from future RRB/RRC exams.
  • Candidates serving in Government/PSU jobs must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the time of Document Verification.
  • Banned items in the exam hall include mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, and any electronic gadgets — only the e-call letter is allowed.
  • Free Sleeper Class train travel pass is available for eligible SC/ST candidates for CBT/DV/Medical stages.
  • RRBs do not appoint agents or coaching centres for recruitment — beware of touts and fake websites.
